Ok, for all you writers out there, AUTOCRIT IS A MUST! Especially if you’re starting out in the writing world. AUTOCRIT is an instant book editor. With the click of a button, it shows you the problems in your manuscript. Using this tool literally taught me to write better. How? It scans your work and details what needs improvement: adverbs, repetitions, whether you show or tell…and more, waaayyy more. I love AUTOCRIT. If you haven’t already, get AUTOCRIT here!
Bros and Sis, Writer’s Digest rocks as far as the craft of writing. If you’re starting out in the writing world, they have countless courses that help you getting better at your beloved art. They can even refer you to editors, agents, publishing houses, etc… One of my favorite features is their “Successful Query Letter” page. They show countless letters that have been accepted by literary agents, and they also show the notes from the agent! Writer’s Digest rules! You can subscribe for FREE here.
Audible stings like a bee and produces sweet honey… What’s cooler than regular books? Of course! Audio books! EVERY artist should read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. I am serious. Funky like a monkey, the Artist’s Way is your doorway to creative freedom and power. A legendary teacher, Julia Cameron knows everything that goes on inside your little artistic head; and she addresses every issue possible: abundance (yes, the dough), creative block, criticism, and a lot more… I read this book way back when and I recommend it to everyone I meet. This 12-week course will sure put you (back) on the right track, and will appease many of your fears. If there’s any one book to read, this is the one.
Cool Podcast Tools!
Blue Snowball mic: Oooh yeah, this was my first mic for podcasting…and it still is. I love this mic. Why? Cheap and good quality. If you’re starting out “doing the thing” behind the mic, this could be a good choice. Aside from the quality, it kind of has a nice round shape, you know, it’s kinda cool to look at (which is a plus) and it’s rock solid (I dropped it a couple of times). Go Blue Snowball! Get it here!
Audacity: This is my most useful tool for podcast editing. And the best part? It’s FREE! Yes, the magical four-letter word. Audacity does the job for all your podcasting job: editing, record, amplify, noise reduction…name it, for a FREE tool, Audacity rocks!
Cool Media tools
Buffer – Hootsuite: No one likes to spend their time on their cell phone tweeting all day…right? Ok, maybe almost everybody. Buffer allows you to schedule your Tweets, Facebook posts, Google +, LinkedIn (and more)…ahead of time. They have the free plan, which you can schedule up to 10 posts. For a mere 10$ a month, however, you can schedule up to 100 posts! Eighty to ninety percent of my posts are scheduled. I love Buffer’s configuration; it’s agreeable to use. Many use Hootsuite, which also does the job. You can get Hootsuite here.
Mailchimp – Aweber: What’s the number one priority to an online business? (Even if you’re a writer, you’re an online business…) E-MAIL LIST BUILDING! I use Mailchimp. Why? Well, aside from the nice monkey-ish logo, Mailchimp is fun to navigate and guess what…drumroll…it’s FREE for your first 2 000 subscribers! Perfect for beginners who are getting their feet wet. Many successful online businesses use Aweber, which also does the job. Get Aweber here.
Facebook Ads: Facebook rocks as far as marketing! You can promote your masterpiece for as low as 1$ a day! Yes, one buck. Isn’t this awesome? What’s even better? You can target your audience, from the continent to the zip code. Really, Facebook ads are revolutionizing internet marketing. I LOVE Facebook ads. Also, Facebook provides stats such as the number of clicks, the platform that the potential client used, and even the gender. God bless Facebook Ads.
Affiliate Links: Any business needs to make some dough. Money is the blood of a business, right? What if you had a store opened 24 hours a day 7 days a week? That’s the power of affiliate marketing and today’s online businesses. What’s the best part? You don’t even have to create the product, you’re selling someone else’s invention and get a commission for it! Nowadays, most brands have an affiliate program, just google ‘brand name’ then affiliate program. You’ll find one nine times out of ten. Some of the most popular affiliate programs out there are Amazon, Audible, Target, Walmart…there are millions of them. Choose those that appeal to your audience. Do them a favor, though, make sure that what you sell is really useful… J
Podcasts That Totally Reek Of Awesomeness
Rich Dad Radio Show: Brothas and Sistas, this is the podcast to listen to if you want to get the 411 on your financial life. Robert and Kim Kiyosaki are simply no 1 in their field. God bless Robert and Kim as their mission is to increase the financial education of humanity, and they do it in an entertaining way. I listen to every episode, every week (and read many of their books).
The Creative Penn: Guys, if you want to get up-to-date info on what’s going on in the literature biz, this is the place to be. Joanna provides useful, fresh insight into the world of publishing as she interviews countless people in the industry. And the best of all? She is a writer. She is walking the talk, fellas. Listening to her podcast will increase your confidence in pursuing the career of your dream. She is one of the reason why I started my podcast in the first place.
Art Of Wrestling: What? A wrestling podcast? Why did you list a wrestling podcast in here Freddy? Well, if you listen to Colt Cabana, I pretty much modeled my podcast after his. Colt Cabana shares his struggles with us all, people, and at the same time, he interviews people in his field, famous and unknown. After you listen to him for quite some time, you will realize that no matter what field we’re in, we all share the same fears and struggles. Kudos to Colt for his honesty and for making me a Colt Cabana fan!
