Prefab shed are available in metal, plastic or vinyl and vary greatly in appearance. Some of them have the look of a sturdy, well-built structure, others rather like a child’s toy. Wood sheds are generally more robust, permanent appearance, depending on the construction and materials. Most of them, even the prefabricated plastic type requires two or more people to correctly assemble them.
Prefab shed is easier to build than wooden shacks. Metal, plastic and vinyl prefabricated sheds come with detailed installation instructions and all the nuts and bolts need to assemble them. Small sheds can sometimes be put together by one person, but medium to large sheds requires at least one extra person to help. Wood sheds are difficult to construct, requiring measuring, sawing and keep the level boards while hammering or screwing them together. The different types of boards for studs, flooring, roofing and siding, as well as assembly hardware, must be assessed. Wood shed plans are available, making the building a little easier. There are also prefab wood shed kits available, but they are still more complicate to assemble.
Most prefab shed plastic and vinyl sheds can be place on a bed of crushed gravel. Less prefab sheds can place directly on the ground as long as it is level and not subject to flooding. Metal prefab sheds must be anchor to a poured concrete foundation or placed on concrete blocks. Metal sheds have to make a moisture barrier below them to prevent rust. Wood sheds must have a foundation.
