Brushed nickel shower faucet is coated with nickel by an electrolytic process. This process bonds the nickel coating to a brass inner layer. Nickel is dull and flat compared to chrome. With the extra brushing process to overturn any reflective qualities, the result is a simple non-glossy surface. Chrome has a highly reflective surface similar to a mirror. It is made of the same electrolytic process, but instead of bonding on the surface of nickel, chromium metal is used.

Cleaning brushed nickel is relatively easy, but not as easy as cleaning chrome. To clean brushed nickel shower faucet, take a mixture of half water and half vinegar or a very mild household detergent and wipe the faucet clean with a soft cloth or a towel. Remove residues from cleaning with another clean towel. Not scrub the faucet, and refraining from frequent cleaning. Excessive rubbing and polishing removes nickel plating surface. This surface is likely to wear away over time.
